Noise & Vibration Surveys

Reliable survey data is essential for the success of almost every project we undertake. At JPM Acoustics, we offer flexible noise and vibration monitoring solutions, whether for short-term surveys (up to 24 hours) or long-term surveys lasting weeks or months.

With remote download capabilities, we can capture, process, and report real-time noise and vibration data from any location with a Wi-Fi connection, ensuring timely and efficient results.

Our survey engineers are fully qualified professionals and hold full membership with the Institute of Acoustics, so you can rest assured that your project is in expert hands.

While much of our survey work supports assessments that we complete in-house, we also provide discreet white-label services to assist other acoustic consultancies in need of additional capacity.

Key Points

  • All surveys are conducted by engineers with full corporate membership of the Institute of Acoustics.
  • All measurement equipment is calibrated in UKAS accredited laboratories to meet relevant British Standards.
  • We offer both complex attended surveys and long-term, unattended surveys based on project needs.

What Type of Project Needs a Noise or Vibration Survey?

In nearly every project we assist with, a noise and / or vibration survey is required. Whether it’s to assess the existing noise environment at a sensitive location where a noisy development is planned, or to measure a noise source similar to what will be installed on a new site, accurate measurements are essential.

Below is a typical (non-exhaustive) survey scope for various types of assessments:

  • New Residential Development. We may need to measure existing noise levels on-site at locations representative of where new homes will be built. This helps us assess the suitability of the site and, if necessary, recommend mitigation measures such as noise barriers or house re-orientation to shield noise-sensitive areas from nearby sources.
  • Proposed Noise-Generating Development. When assessing the impact of a new noise source, it's important to understand the prevailing background noise levels at nearby properties. We then predict the noise from the proposed source—such as mechanical plant or delivery bays—and compare it with existing noise levels to evaluate potential impacts.

  • Commissioning Testing. Noise surveys are often required during the commissioning of noise-generating equipment, machinery, or processes. In these cases, it’s crucial that our surveys capture data in line with the relevant standards referenced in the commissioning documentation.

  • Vibration and Re-Radiated Noise from Gyms. Noise and vibration from amplified music and weight drops in gyms are frequent sources of complaints in mixed-use developments. At JPM Acoustics, we have extensive experience in measuring noise and vibration levels from operational gyms, as well as simulating gym activities in existing buildings. This allows us to provide expert advice on effective noise and vibration control strategies to minimise impact on neighboring properties.
